I have been waking up before 5am for 33 years – 18 as a trader and 15 as a radio guy. Before that, in high school, my dad would wake me up on Saturdays at 5am to work all day as a union construction Laborer. I’d make about a hundred bucks a Saturday, which was great money back then. In the winter, I would sometimes have to cut out early to play a high school basketball game.
It’s midnight, so I’ll be talking on the radio and TV in less than six hours. There’s not enough time to sleep. There never is.

As the three or four of you know, we’ve been covering a lot of murders allegedly committed by young people. There’s the death of Adriana Saucedo, 27, of Portage. Police say she met some kids on social media, agreed to buy some weed from them, got picked up by them… and they found her body in a gymnasium of one of the many abandoned schools in Gary. One of the alleged killers is 15 years old. It’s about time we remember who this blog is for.
First, it’s for the three or four of you who follow along as I try a bunch of different stuff, most of which doesn’t work. Secondly, it’s for communications or maybe business students 50 years from now at a small liberal arts college in the eastern part of the United States. They’re up late working on a group project. They come across my forgotten blog from 50 years ago. They wind up getting an “A” on the resulting paper that they write about outmoded methods of communication. In this case, it’s radio. |
I run radio stations and a streaming video network in Hammond, Ind., and write this blog.
